Aquonyx Black Diamond 1.0 cu ft Coconut Carbon (Metered)
Coconut-shell carbon that takes on chlorine, taste and odor — with a meter.
What it's for
What this system reduces
- Chlorine & chloramine
- Chlorine taste & odor
- Many organic compounds (VOCs)
We describe the reduction of these substances. Actual results depend on your incoming water and system configuration.
Is the Black Diamond 1.0 right for my home?
The Black Diamond carbon filter is the right pick when taste and smell are the issue — chlorine, chlorine odor and that flat city-water flavor — rather than hardness. It's ideal for homes on treated municipal water. One honest note: coconut-shell carbon does not address nitrate. If a nitrate reduction is your goal, that needs a reverse-osmosis system for drinking water, and we'll point you to the right option instead of selling you the wrong one.
Homes on treated city water whose main issue is taste, smell and chlorine — not hardness.
Good to know
Questions about the Black Diamond 1.0
Does carbon filtration soften my water?
No. Carbon reduces chlorine, taste, odor and many organic compounds, but it does not reduce hardness minerals. If you have scale, spotting and stiff laundry, you want a softener or the whole-home combo. If your water is already soft and you just want better taste, carbon is the answer.
Will this take care of nitrate from my well?
No — and we won't pretend otherwise. Activated carbon does not reduce nitrate. Nitrate reduction calls for a reverse-osmosis system at the point of use (typically the kitchen tap). If your test shows nitrate, we'll recommend the correct system rather than this one.
How often does the media need changing?
The metered backwash keeps the coconut-shell carbon working efficiently, and typical whole-home carbon media is replaced on a multi-year cycle depending on your water and usage. We'll give you the expected schedule for your specific setup.
